                                                                                                                                                                                                                               December 16, 2011

Dear Parents,

This year we are lucky enough to have been asked to participate in a program called Orchestrating Kids Through Classics. Its purpose is to help make classical music more accessible for students as well as to help children learn about the instruments of the orchestra. This is done to help the students, so when they reach fourth grade they can make an informed decision if they want to play an instrument and what instrument they want to play.

This program includes four professional musicians coming to Francis Wyman on January 10th to talk with our students and demonstrate the different instruments. On Thursday January 19th, the entire third grade will take a field trip to see the Lexington Symphony Orchestra in a one hour concert created especially for children.

We were lucky enough to receive a grant to cover the cost of the musicians, the tickets to see the concert as well as transportation to the venue. Therefore, the field trip will cost nothing for the students. Please return this permission slip by Thursday December 22nd.

Thank you,

Ms. Potts                               Mrs. Peabody

3rd grade Recorders

This notice was sent home earlier this month. Recorders will be starting for all 3rd grade students when we return from Winter Break.

Francis Wyman Music Department

December 5, 2011

Dear Parent/ Guardian,

Your third grade student has the opportunity to learn how to play the recorder this year.  The recorder is taught not only for learning basic music reading skills but also to prepare the students for the opportunity to play other musical instruments in the fourth and fifth grade.  The music department will be ordering recorders at a good price- $6 for all third grade students this year.  This includes the recorder and recorder bag.  Please send exact cash or check made out to Francis Wyman School for $6 with your child to school for the purchase of their recorder along with this slip ASAP (preferably before Friday, December 16th , 2011) to your student’s homeroom teacher.  We hope to order to have them by the time we get back from Winter Vacation.  If you choose to purchase your own recorder you may do so.  Many music stores in the area sell them.

The music department looks forward to teaching your child the recorder.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Amanda Potts, Apotts@bpsk12.org
